So I never thought I would become one of those “bloggers”. But, here I am.
When I started making wreaths in March, my hope was to earn some extra cash and to be able to make decorations for my home without breaking the bank.
Surprisingly, my business took off! And I have not made any of the projects I had in mind to sell besides WREATHS! ha! My fabric pumpkins haven’t been started, my wood bead garlands are still waiting, and so so much more. My community of family, friends, and neighbors have rallied around me and kept me busy! And I am overjoyed.
And it all seems perfect, right? Well yes!….. and no. With the number of orders, my time is getting more and more precious, and I haven’t been able to be the homemaker in MY home. That was the whole point of Daisy Mae Decor. “Any house can be a home.” Well my house ain’t home if I ain’t getting my stuff done too! We are getting worn out here. I can’t just sell wreaths and spend time away from my son and husband and never clean my house again. (sadly cleaning is part of homemaking!). So I decided to think outside the box. Many people complimented on my wreaths and talked to me how beautiful they are, and how a wreath wasn’t at the top of their list, and other décor items were. Well I WISH so badly I could make every item I was planning to, but I just can’t.
I’m not willing to sacrifice my desired opportunities of being a mother and wife and so I have to make cuts. I have cut the number of orders and designs I can do each seasons. I don’t deliver anymore. I don’t message back in a flash, but in a specificied time of day. I am trying to simplify.
So, here’s my idea. It probably won’t make a million bucks, and that’s OKAY WITH ME. By doing a blog, I can help more homemakers like you find ways to make your house a home. That’s my dream. You don’t have to buy my handcrafted, high quality wreaths if you don’t want to. (or if I sell out sooner than you’d like!). I’m here. I’ll show you my journey of motherhood + homemaking, and hopefully when you look around your house, you can find creative ways to make your space work. To love your unique house with all its quirks, and make it feel like home.
A 1920’s home with the worlds oldest hardware and most vibrant wallpaper, or an 80’s apartment that’s temporary and you don’t want to spend too much money? I am here for that too. This is not a decor blog for the perfect houses of Instagram. This is about making your house HOME.
I consider homemaking part of my relationship with motherhood. In my current situation, the two go hand in hand. And I love it that way. I really do. I know many who are overwhelmed or think they can’t decorate and don’t want to hire a decorator. ITS OK. You got this. I promise.
I am excited to see where this journey takes us. Hold on. You’re going to see pictures of my house that is clearly lived in, and loved. It’s great to have perfect photos, and I hope they inspire us. But its not to compare ourselves to one another. Seriously ladies! We are ALL at very different stages in life. I might be living in a trailer, a small studio, an in-law’s basement, or my dream home. But you can still find elements in your house that can be cozy, welcoming, and feel like HOME.
Honestly, to get to that dream home I know I have ALOT of moving ahead of me. It’s not fair to tell ourselves as a wife, mother, homemaker, that we “Can’t decorate until we live in our dream home.”
ARE YOU KIDDING?! I mean, with this current market my dream home will be a 3 bed 2 bath home when I’m 50! I am going to be moving ALOT. And I don’t want that attitude of “I’ll be happy when…..” to be interfering in my homemaking.
I don’t call it housekeeping for a reason. I don’t just scrub hard water and toilets and endless loads of laundry for the title of “housekeeper”. My role is so much more than that, and yours is too.
“I’ll feel at home when…… I decorate….. when my house looks put together….. when….. I have money……”
NOPE. We might not have time for that. So let’s go, we’ve got houses that need our personal touch.
Thanks for stopping by! Stay tuned for lots of projects and decor hacks!
XO,
Daisy Mae
