Strategies for Shopping at Hobby Lobby with husband

There have been times in my marriage that I’ve been grounded from Hobby lobby!!

I am mostly joking, but ya’ll know I spend a lot of money there.

This made my husband a little bit uneasy about going to Hobby lobby.

So I wrote this mostly humorous post, but there may be some factual evidence to this. 😉

Tips for Hobby Lobby and crafty shoppers. How to leave the store with as much as you “need” as possible.

A guide for women with husbands who may not see the need for decorations or who may appreciate money more than home decor.

Top 10 tips

1: Eat before going

Just EAT BEFORE!! Full belly = more time on the clock for you to shop!

If your husband is hungry just give yourself ten minutes and set an alarm at 8 minutes for him to say “you done yet”.

2. Get dropped off

If your husband is already showing trepidation or you notice his blood pressure rising with each stoplight into the city, just offer to have him drop you off and meet up in 30 minutes (or if he might go for an hour!).

Make sure when he drops you off at the door that you kiss him on the cheek and remind him you love him!

Pro-tip: do NOT grab a cart on the way in! He might just park the car and come find you to help monitor your spending! You want to assure him you are just getting a few things!

Watch him pass by the store and after a safe five minutes then grab the cart! 🙂

3. Promise something “fun” after.

Whatever it is he wants, and you’re ok with!

If you promise to go to a super hero movie at the theater you might just get a solid hour in the craft store prior.

And—-Maybe he won’t notice extra stuff in your cart, or not want to be late to the movie to put stuff back! 😉

4. When you see something you like, act as if you’ve been dying to buy it and you see it everytime you’re at the store!! Points!!

He can’t resist that right? Especially if you’ve resisted buying it “every” time thus far!

Your kids do this and sometimes it work for them, so maybe it won’t hurt to try it with hubby.

5. Send him next door.

If you’re not up to something fun for him later or you just need the spending moderator off your back for a minute, send him over to the stores next door. Our Hobby Lobby has Lowe’s next door. Some have Cal-Ranch next door!

Remind him there was “something” he needed and send him to go find it! He probably will! 😉

This will give you approximately 15 minutes. Shop quickly! Just make sure he didn’t take the money! Then maybe you can checkout before he’s back with what you want? 🙂

6. Put stuff in your cart while he is facing away from the cart! It’s makes it less intimidating for him.

This always stops him from balking at every tiny (cheap) thing in your cart!

If he turns around or finds you in the store with a full cart he might just feel defeated. Score!

7. Forget your budget all together.

When he asks, “Babe, what’s the budget for this trip?”

Round up and round high! And “figure it out” later. When it’s all in your house super cute. He can’t resist that, right?

8. Promise to use your decorations immediately.

“Hey babe, I’ll put up my Spring stuff when we get home. This would really tie it all together. I promise it won’t sit in my craft room!”

If things are on good deals and you’re desperate you might have to forget your budget!!

9. Remind him of his expensive purchases and outings with his friends.

Tools are expensive, so truck parts and fancy tires.

Perhaps he’ll budge a little.

If none of the above are working, you might have to settle for #10. It is risky. Be aware it could all blow up in your face and you might have to leave a half-filled cart in the store as you chase out a fuming husband and you console a teary child while you buy a broken glass figurine your child broke.

Here it is:

10. If you have children, bring them, or at least the youngest.

This is probably your last resort. The risks are pretty big with this one….

When the kids start acting up, have your hubby take the kids out to the car, to another store, to buy a treat, and RUN!!

This is where knowing the store like the back of your hand comes in handy, and memorizing the Hobby Lobby sale schedule comes into play. Remember pictures frames are always on sale, and that’s tabletop decor and the big wall hangings are on opposite weeks!

Well there you have it! 10 easy ways to improve your Hobby Lobby outings with your husband!!

May the force be with you!
