The time has come and gone so quickly.
My tiny, quiet newborn is now a six-month chunky boy full of giggles and coo-ing. This means…… he has now graduated to the nursery! I am so excited to share this nursery with you!
As many of you know, I am limited on how I can decorate. No fancy accent walls, remodeling, or painting! It also is a pretty small space so I decided to make the room as simple as possible so as to make the room feel less tight.
A Safari Nursery
There are a million nursery ideas I pinned on Pinterest. SO many cute ideas! There were so many times I said “Oh I definitely have to do that theme one of these times.”
However, we landed on A SAFARI NURSERY
Of course I wanted to make a Jeep toddler bed and had some pretty cool ideas. However, I am on a budget for such a limited space!
So I decided that as much as I love going over-the-top, with huge projects and all, I wanted to keep this one simple. Easy to move in case we found a home, and simple enough that it wouldn’t seem as small as the room really is.
I already had one white crib and a white dresser, so I just stuck with the theme and got another white crib!
Full disclosure: My cribs were both free! And they have worked great. Came with all the parts and everything. My dresser was $50.
Obviously my chair was a splurge! It has been hard to find the color I want, but I love it. I originally bought it for my master bedroom, but it’s the perfect color! The one I had originally wanted for this nursery has been out of stock for months in the color I need… So I had to improvise, and I took this chair for my nursery for now. I couldn’t wait several months for the chair to rock my kiddos. This chair is so comfortable, and although a little bigger than I want for the space, it has worked out really well for us.
If you haven’t seen my playroom yet, click here to see it! You’ll see how important rocking chairs are to me. I love having a space to rock my babies and read books with them.
Add Your Own Personalization
My favorite part of the nursery is the handmade quilts by my sweet mother-in-law. I really wanted some handmade touches to the room, and my mother-in-law is an amazing quilter. So I based the whole room off of the quilt colors. And I LOVE it. It’s modern, and adventurous, and yet the colors are not overwhelming.
The neutral colors I used throughout helped to balance out the colors in the quilts and that is exactly what I was going for. The quilts are/will be the focus of the room. For a 10 x 10 room, I think I did pretty good! Of course the reality is that it is tight, but it does feel peaceful and is not cluttered at all!
My toddler loves all the jungle animals and we’ve had fun naming them and of course this has helped him learn new words. What a fun age! I love his curiosity and interests in animals.

Although living in such a tight space right now is not ideal, I have made my place feel like home one space, one room at a time. Whether we buy a home next week or in one year, I wanted my boys to have a nursery that is put together and easy to transfer. The neutral colored wall decor and furniture allows versatility. Whether my walls are white, tan, or gray, we will be okay!
Whether you are renting (short-term/long term) like me right now, or you are in your house and ready to start your nursery, this cute set up is a great option for those on a budget, and needing the versatility to be able to switch up decor without changing wall color.
Wherever you are, I firmly believe you can make your house feel like home. I’m just here to give you some inspiration and help you believe in yourself.
XOXO,
Kelsie Ann
