don t panic text on toilet paper

As you all know, I am in the thick of potty training. We have had our ups and downs, but I am learning!

My son was showing no interest in his potty seat that went on top of our toilet. He seemed scared, and I didn’t want him to feel scared, so naturally I gave up. With two kids in diapers I was started to get a little tired as my son is just too big for the average size diaper. He’s a good-sized toddler for just 2 years old!

I decided on purchasing a potty that would look and sound just like a real one so that hopefully he won’t be as scared of the “real” one. With his lack of interesting in potty training, I decided to try to make it fun. I did a scavenger hunt with Easter Eggs (just after Easter) to try to introduce the potty to him.

The hints and rhymes were cheesy, but he had so much fun figuring out the clues and showing us where the eggs were. (I just did 5 eggs). At the end, it lead us all to the bathroom. He was very excited with it. He wasn’t initially interested in hopping on and trying it out, but the next morning he was so excited and we didn’t have an accident for a couple hours!

This is the one I bought, just in white. Hudson was much more interested in this potty and he wasn’t scared of the toilet flushing. At the time this one was out of stock, but this is the one I wanted to store baby wipes.

Now that I have this one, I like having it open on top because toddlers seem to break a lot of things, and this is one less thing for him to break!

This one has a lid! Which is great practice for your little one! This one was also out of stock at the time, but definitely look into it at well!

I also recommend potty liners if you’re look for something to help make cleanup easier. It’s not necessary and I started without it, but to keep up, this made it much easier! I just bought the cheapest ones available!

A close friend sent me a link to this portable potty seat and told me how much of a life-saver it has been while doing errands and going on adventures with her little one! This one is in my cart and ready to be used! Hoping we get to that point soon!

If you’re super concerned with germs (or you might already have a full diaper bag like me), these disposable potty covers are great for on-the-go! These are also great if your husbands refuse to touch a reusable potty cover 🙂

My son is a big fan of my watch (I wear a Fitbit), and so I thought maybe his own watch would help him want to go on his own! It has seemed to do the trick. It was one of those items that I didn’t know if I really needed, but seemed to speed up the potty training for us, which I have really appreciated!

Potty training underpants are extra thick! I wish I would have bought more of this kind of underwear. I was limited to about 8. I really appreciated how thick they were. This helped stop the messes a little easier, but still gave him the ability to know if it was wet or not. I like these training underwear much better than a pull-up, because my kiddo seemed much more aware and accountable!

One of my favorite things about the whole potty training experience is reading the books. We would read a couple books about potty training during our quiet time together (while baby brother was asleep), and I think they just solidify and help encourage!

I created a potty chart to help show our progress during the week. This has worked great for us, as he gets to add a sticker each time. These Potty charts can be laminated and reused if you want to save and keep the potty training streak going! (or you can print them an unlimited amount of times for your kiddos!)

Potty training is hard, but I also have been having fun. We had some laughs, and cries too. Our first day I ended up changing bedding sheets for nearly everyone in the house and had SO much laundry for me and my toddler. But it has gotten better.

Although we aren’t 100% trained through the night, my little guy does pretty good at home during the day. Hopefully we can get better with our outings this summer! I’ve learned that even though I am knew at parenting and potty training, that its okay 🙂 we gotta give ourselves grace Mommas!

No matter how old your child is, or how long it might take to potty train, just remember that each child is different. I know it was really easy to compare to other children much younger that were fully trained, but it just isn’t fair. Comparison truly is the thief of Joy!

XOXO Momma,

Kelsie Ann
