Last week my husband accepted a new job out of state. We are thrilled for the amazing opportunity ahead of us!
With that means….. moving!!! Ahh! Not my favorite thing in the world.
So, instead of moving I decided to look back through memory lane. I wanted to see how my decorating has evolved over the years and houses I have called home.
This home has its quirks. But I have loved it. The challenges of creating and rearranging and finding ways to make it all fit have been rewarding.
This is how I decorated last year in my entry and main kitchen. Stay tuned for more.
I kept it really simple. Tied bows on my tin can and metal pitcher. Garland was a fabulous find at a DI. (A high end garland) and then the Christmas ornaments from Hobby Lobby!
All I bought was the ribbon, the ornaments, the mini wreath (PLAIN- then I added to it), mini Christmas tree, sleigh on discount, and the burlap bag on a huge discount as well!
This allowed me to stay within my budget and it looked amazing.
Around the holidays my husband usually mentions how he wishes we could have a house we own so we can “go all out” to decorate.
I feel differently about it.
The time to LIVE is now. It’s not later. It’s not when we get our dream home. That will be in 20 years, most likely!
So use what you have, reuse, add a bow, and give yourself a reasonable amount of money to add to it. And enjoy it.
Enjoy your rental. Your temporary house. Make it yours. So when you look back, you smile as you remember how you worked with the space (or lack of), and the quirks, and your tight budget…. But how nice it felt to feel at Home.
This entry way has some fun quirks to it. The ceiling is low, and I have the stairs to a dirt basement. So I had to leave enough space for the door to open.
I really like how it turned out. It was really special walking in the house and my husband seeing my work!
You can make any house feel like home. Your house just might need a little extra love and sweet talkin’ —and you’ll be able to find ways to make your house shine in its very own affordable, temporary way.
Stay crafty!
